Northern Quarter Street Party
One of CityCo’s main objectives is to support the development of the Northern Quarter.
As part of Manchester’s Royal Wedding celebrations, CityCo worked alongside Edge Street Events and Sparkle Street Creative Adventures to bring a 1940s themed party to the streets of the Northern Quarter.
CityCo’s Northern Quarter Coordinator, Tommy Wolstencroft, worked closely with Manchester City Council and local service providers to ensure the success of the event, which took place on Friday 29 April 2011.
To start the process consultation was undertaken with local residents, ensuring that all were fully informed of the event details. A meeting was arranged and information leaflets were distributed locally.
CityCo liaised with Manchester City Council Highways to organise the road closure strategy, suspension of parking bays and management of traffic before, after and during the event.
Assistance was also provided in the completion of the documentation required for the initial street party application, the temporary entertainment permit and the on-street purveyance of food and drink.
A strategy for the controlled consumption of alcohol was formulated with Greater Manchester Police and an effective cleansing and waste removal protocol agreed with Manchester City Council, which resulted in the deployment of additional manpower during and after the event.
CityCo also chaired a full debriefing session with all concerned parties, to utilise in the planning and development of any future events.
