Government plans to present an ‘Integrated Rail Plan’ for the North and Midlands shortly, which will look at how to deliver HS2 Phase 2b, Northern Powerhouse Rail, Midlands Rail Hub and other rail programmes better and more effectively.
Subject to this, the Western Leg of High Speed Rail (HS2) ‘Phase 2b’ will run between Crewe and Manchester, with a connection to the West Coast Main Line, and the Eastern Leg will connect the West Midlands with Leeds.
HS2 Government Bill
In line with its commitment to build back better, and deliver economic benefits and improved transport links to the North quicker, the Government intends to deposit a hybrid Bill for the Western Leg of HS2 Phase 2b early in 2022 or sooner if possible, subject to the outcome of the Integrated Rail Plan.
Construction is then expected to begin within 5 years, with operation of HS2 services commencing on the Western Leg between 2035 and 2040.
In preparation for the hybrid Bill, HS2 have published new information and are planning to hold several events and webinars throughout July:
6th July 2021, Manchester Airport Marriott Hotel, Hale Road, Hale Barns, Manchester
9th July 2021, Culcheth Sports Club, Charnock Road, Culcheth, Warrington
14th July 2021, St Thomas Centre, Ardwick Green North, Manchester
All events run from 2pm – 8pm
There is a HS2 Helpdesk to ask any questions on the project. The team are available all day, every day of the year.
