CityCo is the city centre management and is a membership organisation. We bring together the private and public-sector to support growth and create a vibrant, resilient city. We work with companies across all sectors, sizes and locations and our network includes head offices, banks, hotels, property, architects, shops, universities, restaurants, theatres and more.

Our work takes us across Manchester’s central neighbourhoods including NOMA, Medieval Quarter, Greengate, New Bailey, Northern Quarter, Piccadilly, Gay Village, Oxford Road, First Street, Petersfield, Chinatown, Civic Quarter, St John’s, Spinningfields and the Retail District.

We offer a range of Business Services to our membership: Operational Support, City Forums and Lobbying, Business Crime Reduction Partnership, Business Training, Business Briefings, City Intelligence, Corporate Events, The PA Network and CityCo Event & Meeting Spaces.

CityCo is currently delivering the second term (2018-2023) of Manchester Business Improvement District, Manchester BID. The BID is a working consortium of 400 retail and food/drink operators in the city centre. The purpose is to help businesses by offering lobbying support, operational and customer services and delivering a programme of public events.

The 2020 BID events programme currently features two student shopping nights with Manchester Arndale, The King Street Festival, Halloween in the City and Chinese New Year. We also work with other events in partnership, such as Manchester Pride. The calendar is subject to development each year.

We are a small, passionate team, reporting to a Board of business, civic and cultural leaders.

Job Purpose and Responsibilities

As a key member of the consumer events production team, the Events Executive will support the planning and delivery of large-scale public events to bring more people into city centre Manchester and raise the profile of the city as a destination where great things happen. All events reflect the strategic objectives of Manchester Business Improvement District.

The Events Executive will work closely with the Event Producer and other internal teams; and will report directly to the Head of Events and Sponsorship. As well as working as part of a team, the exec will work individually on tasks simultaneously on several projects. Key to the role is the ability to to plan and deliver a range of events across the year and support all aspects of operations and logistics as required.

Being highly organised and able to prioritise tasks is crucial. You will be responsible for planning and delivering detailed administrative tasks ensuring an auditable trail during pre- and post-production event phases. You will also be required to carry out research on event themes and content and make recommendations for activities based on your research. You will be required to book artists, accommodation and travel as required.

The ambition is to ensure Manchester BID consumer events are of the highest quality, are aspirational and appealing, will attract regional and national publicity, set standards in production, design and programming – and achieve against measurable targets.

The Events Executive will liaise with suppliers, contractors and delivery partners to ensure the events are successful, safely delivered and attractive to future supporters.

Essential Core Competencies

  • 2+ years’ experience of planning and supporting successful, creative public events
  • Knowledge of event logistics and operations
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and event site design
  • Brilliant organisational skills
  • Creative thinker with a keen eye for aesthetic detail
  • High quality design standards
  • Superb written and oral communication skills
  • Problem-solver
  • Presentation, networking and negotiating skills
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Experience of record-keeping

Desirable Core Competencies

  •  CAD certified
  • Degree in related field
  • Personal licence holder
  • Recruitment and management of volunteers
  • Excellent knowledge of Manchester city centre

The requirements of the business are such that a high degree of flexibility is necessary and therefore evening and weekend working will be required. To comply with changes in the legislation covering the activities of Manchester BID and CityCo it is required that all staff undertakes training as directed by their line manager or the Chief Executive.

It is also essential that all staff carry out their duties in a safe manner in accordance with the current Health & Safety at work legislation.

The role will be based at the main CityCo/ManchesterBID office at Lloyds House, Lloyd Street, Manchester with the expectation that many of the activities will take place at in the public realm.

Annual leave entitlement of 26 days plus bank holidays.

This post is subject to a three-month probationary period.
