Home to timeless architecture and a rich history, King Street has remained Manchester’s most iconic shopping street since the 1800s. The King Street Festival celebrates its past, present and future with a weekend of live music, alfresco dining, conversation, historical tours, street art, craft ale and prosecco bars, VIP shopping experiences, the Manchester Flower Show and much more.

We’re on the look out for entries for the Manchester Flower Show element of the festival from professional and amateur gardeners, florists and growers.

With the support of RHS Bridgewater, the event pays homage to the original Manchester Flower Show which began in 1955 and returned to the city last year after a 15 year hiatus.

Taking over historic King Street, the flower show the region’s floristry, produce and gardening talent, alongside a market of gardening products, outdoor accessories and flowers over the weekend of the King Street Festival on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June.

This year’s theme is Flower Power and we’re looking for designs which explore colour, vibrancy and joy or those inspired by the 1960s – the decade that gave us flower power and the summer of love – but the theme can be interpreted however entrants wish.

Applications to participate in this year’s festival are now open with entries from professional and amateur gardeners, community groups, universities and colleges, charities, landscaping and gardening companies, nurseries, florists and growers encouraged. There are four categories available to enter:

* Pocket Garden
* Green Takeover
* Table Display
* Bicycle

Entry is free and submissions can range from a small show garden which demonstrates high quality and creative design to an inventive and unusual green intervention that takes over and uses urban features such as lamp posts, balconies, telephone booths and shop windows or a creative table display with cut-flowers, fruit, veg, bonsai, cacti or other plants or flowers.

All entrants are encouraged to be as creative as possible and all entries which go through to the show will receive a coveted Manchester Flower Show rosette and will be judged at the event by a panel including gardeners from RHS Bridgewater for Best in Category and Best in Show.

Interested parties should contact lucy.russell@cityco.com for an initial pre-application consultation.

The deadline for completed applications is Monday 22 April.
