Counter Terrorism Update

23rd Mar 2017

At approximately 1440 hrs on March 22nd 2017 a terrorist incident occurred in Westminster, London. The attacker drove a vehicle into multiple pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, and subsequently tried to enter the Palace of Westminster. A police officer was killed in the incident and the perpetrator was shot by armed police and died of his injuries. The incident resulted in a further 3 fatalities and at least 40 people were injured.

Owing to the fact that the incident appears to be contained, the UK national threat level remains at ‘SEVERE: An attack is highly likely’.

There is no specific intelligence that would suggest that further attacks are imminent.

The current UK threat level from Northern Ireland Related Terrorism remains at ‘SUBSTANTIAL’.

We would urge all sites to remain vigilant and to report suspicious behaviour.
