- BID Manager (Manchester's Business Improvement District)
The Manchester BID runs a team of tourist information and city welcome guides, our City Hosts. The ambassadors are out and about, giving help to visitors and acting as a liaison point between the BID team and retailers.
The hosts work seven days a week, 363 days a year and are based around the main shopping streets of Market Street, Exchange Square, New Cathedral Street, St Ann’s Square, Deansgate and King Street.
The team is on hand to guide shoppers, advising on directions, public transport info and events taking place across the city. They are also the eyes and ears of the BID team out on the streets, and make regular visits to stores. The hosts also monitor and report on environmental and street issues in the area.
The hosts are trained by management company The Welcome People who run similar partnerships up and down the country including in London’s West End. Local training partners are Visit Manchester, Manchester Arndale, Selfridges, Manchester Central, Manchester City Council, Manchester Museums and the Tourist Information Centre.
The Welcome People were awarded Silver at the Visit England Excellence Awards 2015, in the Visitor Information Provider of the Year category. The award reflects the winning-service of their ambassadors across the UK.
