Big Change MCR: Share the message and volunteer
Big Change MCR launched last year to share ways people can help the homeless and rough sleepers in Manchester.
The central message is ‘Give Differently’. Instead of direct donations on the street, Big Change is about helping individuals build independent lives away from the streets by offering practical services, items and money to pay for things that are needed. For example a deposit for a home, a training course, clothes for a job interview, furnishing for a new flat, or travel costs.
Promotional Film: Manchester creative agency Dinosaur has produced a short film to highlight the ways to support Big Change. The video is voiced by Elbow front man Guy Garvey.
New Posters: A new poster set illustrates how donations are being spent to help people. Please do share the Big Change campaign message with your staff teams.
Volunteer: Help is needed at the many charities and organisations working daily to support homeless people in Manchester.
Keep an eye on ITV this week, when Big Change co-chairs Eleanor Watts and Mooch Ashley will be discussing the campaign on Granada Reports.
Market Street Clean Up: Volunteers needed!
Following our deep-clean of Piccadilly Approach with partners Biffa, Greater Manchester Police, Manchester City Council and Street Support, CityCo is coordinating another day of action on 20th September around Piccadilly Gardens, New York Street and Market Street.
Please consider how you could use this opportunity to support your CSR initiatives. We had great teams in June from members Bruntwood, Abode, Malmaison and Manchester Arndale. Tasks will include litter picking, clearing and cleaning of tree pits, planters, lamp posts and street furniture.
Our series of clean ups support the city’s Our Manchester strategy and will rotate around the city centre over the next few months. Watch the City Council film of the initiative here.
Cottonmouth MCR: Salford Spotlight
Our Cottonmouth Manchester podcast series continues. Listen to new episodes on Manchester’s design industry with renowned illustrators Stan Chow and Barney Ibbotson, a discussion about retail in the city with Costa Coffee and Kiehls – and an interview with Salford’s City Mayor Paul Dennett.
Paul talks about what he does, the inspiration he finds in the people of Salford, his role in Andy Burnham’s cabinet, the issue of homelessness and the need for developers and companies investing in the city to give back.
Coming soon: chats with Manchester Art Gallery cafe’s new chef and former Aumbry owner Mary Ellen McTague, Director of Manchester Museum Nick Merriman and MMU’s External Affairs adviser, Michael Taylor.
