CityCo is the city centre management company and is a membership organisation. We bring together the private and public-sector to support growth and create a vibrant, resilient city. We work with companies across all sectors, sizes and locations and our network includes head offices, banks, hotels, property, architects, shops, universities, restaurants, theatres and more.

Our work takes us across Manchester’s central neighbourhoods including NOMA, Medieval Quarter, Greengate, New Bailey, Northern Quarter, Piccadilly, Gay Village, Oxford Road, First Street, Petersfield, Chinatown, Civic Quarter, St John’s, Spinningfields and the Retail District.

We offer a range of Business Services to our membership: Operational Support, City Forums and Lobbying, Business Crime Reduction Partnership, Business Training, Business Briefings, City Intelligence, Corporate Events, The PA Network and CityCo Event & Meeting Spaces.

Manchester Business Improvement District

CityCo is currently delivering the last year of the second term (2018-2023) of Manchester Business Improvement District, Manchester BID. The BID is a working consortium of 400 retail and food/drink operators in the city centre. The purpose is to help businesses by offering lobbying support, operational and customer services and delivering a programme of public events.

The 2022/23 BID events programme currently features, Manchester Flower Festival, MCR Student Social, Halloween in the City and Chinese New Year. We also work with other events in partnership, such as Christmas Markets and Manchester Pride. The calendar is subject to development each year.

We are a small, passionate team, reporting to a board of business, civic and cultural leaders.

Job Purpose and Responsibilities

As a key member of the consumer events production team, the Events Producer will take a key role on the planning and delivery of large-scale public events to bring more people into city centre Manchester and raise the profile of the city as a destination where great things happen. All events reflect the strategic objectives of Manchester Business Improvement District.

Key to the role is the ability to to plan and deliver a range of events across the year and support all aspects of operations and logistics as required, as well as being expected to work under own initiative on simultaneous tasks across several events, projects, and development areas. The Events Producer will work with other internal teams; and will report directly to the Senior Events Producer.

Being highly organised and able to prioritise tasks is crucial. You will be responsible for planning and delivering detailed administrative tasks ensuring an auditable trail during pre and post production event phases.

You will also be required to carry out research on event themes and content and make recommendations for activities based on your research.

This role will also require to manage and support junior members of staff and volunteers when required.

The ambition is to ensure Manchester BID consumer events are of the highest quality, are aspirational and appealing, will attract regional and national publicity, set standards in production, design and programming – and achieve against measurable targets.

The Events Producer will liaise with suppliers, contractors, and delivery partners to ensure the events are successful, safely delivered and attractive to future supporters.

Essential Core Competencies

  • 5+ years’ experience planning and delivering successful creative large-scale events in a public realm or similar setting

General Information

The requirements of the business are such that a high degree of flexibility is necessary and therefore evening and weekend working will be required. To comply with changes in the legislation covering the activities of Manchester BID and CityCo it is required that all staff undertakes training as directed by their line manager or the Chief Executive.

It is also essential that all staff carry out their duties in a safe manner in accordance with the current Health & Safety at work legislation.

The role will be based at the main CityCo/ManchesterBID office at Lloyds House, Lloyd Street, Manchester with the expectation that many of the activities will take place in the public realm.

The salary is £30,000 P/A.

Annual leave entitlement of 26 days plus bank holidays.

This post is subject to a three-month probationary period.

The contract is until 31st March 2023, with a view to extension.
