GMP Update – GMP Demand and World Cup Policing

11th July 2018

A message from Chief Inspector Cherie Buttle:

Please be assured that the force have now put in place a policing operation for Wednesday afternoon.

The details are yet to be finalised, but there will be dedicated resources for Castlefield Bowl and also the remainder of the city.  This will be a much larger policing operation than that which was seen on Saturday.

We are working closely with MCC and Licensing to ensure this is a safe event and minimise disruption to the community.

In addition I have received some recent concerns in relation to difficulties contacting us via 101.

You may have heard today on the radio that demand levels have been significantly high due to the weather and the World Cup.

The force have now put in place provisions to manage this demand.

Going forward GMP are reviewing the way the public can contact us to report crimes and incidents to ensure it is more effective and make improvements.  This is a longer term piece of work.

I am currently liaising with colleagues from the Communications Branch and I will provide updates as I receive them.

I will be working on Wednesday so should you require anything please do not hesitate to contact me.

Following the result of the game on Wednesday we will review policing requirements for the weekend and I will send you further information accordingly.
