Heart Safe Manchester Scheme
CityCo runs a Heart Safe Scheme in partnership with the North West Ambulance Service. The aim is for Manchester to become the UK’s first ‘Heart Safe’ city.
The campaign is increasing the number of defibrillators across the city centre; ensuring people are never more than four minutes away (walking distance) from potentially life-saving equipment, 24/7.
An automated external defibrillator (AED) delivers an electric pulse through the chest to restore normal heart rhythm. If used within the first four minutes of a cardiac arrest it can give the casualty an 80% chance of survival. Over 200 staff members at the various venues have been trained to operate AED units so far. Contact us to enquire about installing a defib machine.
If you already have a defib, please register it with NWAS in order to notify the ambulance service that it can be used in an emergency.
