2025 was a billion-pound year for Manchester city centre

14th Jan 2026

Over £1 billion was spent in Manchester city centre retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in 2025.

Manchester city centre retailers recorded £1bn in debit card sales last year across stores, restaurants, and a range of leisure venues. Despite the national economic challenges, this is a significant milestone for the city, underlining the scale and appeal of Manchester as a ‘go to’ destination for locals and UK visitors.

Behind this figure are over 40 million customer visits, thousands of jobs, and a city centre that is continuing to drive footfall and investment. Alongside, the residential population and the visitor economy are set to further expand over the next few years – all helping attract even more leading brands to one of Europe’s fastest growing cities.
