Working with partners including Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester and Marketing Manchester, CityCo reports to a Board of influential business and civic leaders.

Business Improvement Districts

CityCo manages the City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) and is a delivery partner of the Manchester Accommodation BID. These are collaborative partnerships of hoteliers, retailers, office managers and leisure venues across the city centre.

Business Plans set out a range of activity to support BID businesses, including the delivery of public events that drive footfall, positive PR, dwell time, spend in the city, and overnight hotel stays.

The current events programme includes: The Super Duper Family Festival, The Manchester Flower Festival, MCR Student Social, SCENE: Manchester LGBTQ+ Film & TV Festival, and Halloween in the City.

Job Description 

The Assistant Event Producer will report to the Senior Event Producers and Head of Events, working as part of the production team and in close liaison with the CityCo Marketing team.

The role supports the delivery of large-scale public events in Manchester city centre, helping to attract more people into the city and further strengthen Manchester’s reputation as a leading visitor destination.

You will contribute to the research, ideation, planning and delivery of a varied annual programme of events, supporting all aspects of organisation, operations and logistics. Under the guidance of Senior Event Producers, you will produce elements of major events and take responsibility for delivering smaller events within the programme.

Events are consumer-focused and aimed at local, regional, national and international audiences, ranging from outdoor public-space events to in-venue activity. All events will align with CityCo’s objectives and those of key stakeholders, often involving collaboration with businesses and organisations across Manchester.

You will manage multiple projects simultaneously, working both collaboratively and independently. Strong organisational skills, a proactive approach and the ability to prioritise effectively are essential.

The role includes partnership development and management, supporting the involvement of stakeholders, suppliers and sponsors. You will build and maintain strong relationships with businesses, organisations and brands locally, nationally and internationally to grow the scale, quality and reputation of CityCo’s events.

The post requires end-to-end project management, from research and creative development through programming, scheduling, partner and supplier management, on-the-ground delivery and post-event evaluation.

The ambition is to deliver high-quality, aspirational public events that engage audiences, generate positive media coverage, and set high standards in production, design and programming.

Essential Core Competencies

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience delivering, or supporting delivery of, successful large-scale events in outdoor and indoor public spaces
  • Excellent knowledge of Manchester city centre
  • Advanced knowledge of event logistics and operations
  • Creative thinker with strong content and programming ideas
  • Highly organised, with strong relationship-building skills
  • High-quality design standards and a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent written, verbal and negotiation skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Experience managing budgets and maintaining records
  • Advanced knowledge of Health & Safety legislation in events

Desirable Core Competencies

  • Established local event industry contacts
  • Experience developing a cultural events programme
  • Experience recruiting and managing staff and volunteers
  • Media, PR and social media experience
  • Personnel and contract management experience
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office, Canva and ticketing systems such as Skiddle or Eventbrite (or ability to learn quickly)
  • Experience delivering both outdoor and in-venue events
  • Comfortable with physically demanding activity
  • Degree in a related field

General Information

The role is based at CityCo’s Head Office, St George’s House, Peter Street, Manchester, M2 3NQ, with flexibility for some working from home.

During key delivery periods, full-time office attendance may be required. Evening and weekend working during event delivery stages is also expected.
