POPS Forum: Ambition & Background

The CityCo POPs Forum aims to support managers of privately owned public space (POPS) in Manchester City Centre.

The ambition is:

  • To support our members in operating some of the best POPS
  • To effect consistency of quality visitor experience across Manchester city centre POPs
  • To provide a strong voice for the management of POPs across the city centre
  • To retain the unique characteristics of Manchester city centre’s POPS.

The information provided in this toolkit comes from a range of sources:

  • From real time experience of managing issues in public spaces
  • From sharing of best practice amongst peers locally, nationally and internationally
  • From first-hand experience of dealing with the same issues in publicly owned public spaces
  • From study of place management academically
  • Multi-agency partner inputs.

If you have responsibility for managing a space that is open to the public, then this forum is designed for you. Being part of the forum and using the information in this toolkit will ensure that you:

  • Understand the impact that outside factors can have on your space and how to best manage it
  • Have information at your disposal that will help you deal with the key issues facing POPS management today
  • Give you a clear steer of the core management issues you need to be up to date with to effectively manage your space
  • Have a pathway to ongoing learning from peers, sharing of best practice, and training.
