Current Safer City Initiatives
Stop It! Anti-Social Behaviour campaign
Encouraging both businesses and the public to report ASB, physical and verbal assaults, on customer-facing staff in Manchester city centre.
ACT Awareness Training for Businesses
Delivering regular Action Counters Terrorism training, with the support of ‘Martyn’s Law’ founder Figen Murray OBE. Partnership training organised by CityCo, and delivered by Manchester City Council Licensing, Protect UK and National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) advisors. Designed to raise vigilance of the current terrorist threat to the UK and provide businesses with guidance.
Supporting the principles of Martyn’s Law/Protect UK in Manchester, via partnership-led business training, urban resilience guidance, counter-terrorism planning and political lobbying.
Women’s Nighttime Safety Charter & Welfare and Vulnerability Training
Encouraging businesses to sign-up to the Manchester City Council-led Charter. Supported by CityCo, City Centre BID and Manchester Accommodation BID. Aimed at supporting employers and staff with a workforce at work between 6pm and 6am.
PAcT (Public Access Trauma) Kits Scheme
A Manchester City Council-led initiative supported by CityCo, Steroplast Healthcare, City Centre BID and Manchester Accommodation BID. 170+ kits are installed across city centre venues and hotels. The kits include potentially life-saving equipment to assist ‘first responders’, emergency services, hospitality staff and members of the public in the event of emergencies and injury.
A Manchester City Council-led initiative supported by CityCo, City Centre BID and Manchester Accommodation BID. The app is a free, personal safety app. The tool combines a detailed safe-space map and journey-planning to help workers, visitors and residents safely navigate the city with confidence.
