Events in Greater Manchester – Wednesday 31 May to Sunday 4 June

Summer event season is upon us and it’s set to be a busy couple of weeks for the region. In the first of two consecutive weekends for major events, between Wednesday 31 May and Sunday 4 June, concerts will
take place at the Etihad, Emirates Old Trafford and the AO Arena, as well as three days of industrial action on the rail network.

Saturday 3 June is expected to be the busiest day of this disruptive period and of the year so far for transport in Greater Manchester. Plan ahead and allow additional time for your journey.

TfGM’s dedicated webpage details how your journey may be impacted on each day by road closures, rail strikes, or by busy periods.

  • With rail strikes and many major events on the same day, Saturday 3 June will be one of the busiest days of the year on the region’s transport network. We are advising people to travel by Metrolink, as this will be the quickest and most reliable means of travel.
  • For car users, who have no option but to drive, we are advising them to add a significant amount of additional time to their journeys. Drivers can save time by using a Metrolink Park and Ride site.
  • We will be strongly advising people not to drive into the city centre. We expect congestion in the city centre and on the Inner Ring Road throughout each day.
  • Those travelling into the city centre on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are encouraged to retime their journey to travel on Metrolink before 3pm or work from home to avoid busy roads, buses and trams.
